Internship

An internship at TechSoup is not just a learning experience; it is an opportunity to be challenged and make a meaningful contribution. You will work on projects that make an impact on the world.

This is a paid, remote position. Candidates must be available to work within normal PDT time-zone working hours (8:00 AM PDT to 4:30 PM PDT or 9:00 AM PT to 5:30 PM PDT typically).

Position

TechSoup’s Development and Strategic Alliances Team secures philanthropic, corporate, and donor support for TechSoup programs and the TechSoup Global Network (TSGN). Our team works to secure grant funding and develop partnerships through which we can connect grassroots civil society organizations around the globe to the tools, training, and resources they need to better deliver on their missions.

This Internship position will directly support the Development and Strategic Alliances Team’s fundraising efforts by conducting qualitative data analysis and visualization to help us to make our fundraising strategy development across the TSGN more sustainable; organize our prospect and donor engagement strategies to enable us to move and close more fundraising opportunities in our pipeline; and participating in technical writing and administrative tasks to improve our grant operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supporting Fundraising Strategy Development for the TSGN. The Development and Strategic Alliances team is working with our network of TSGN partners to develop and execute strategies through which we can help Partners become more financially sustainable. This position will help us move the next phase of collaborations forward with partners by supporting the synthetization, analysis, and presentation of data collected. Duties will include:
    • Conducting deeper analysis and research into the top 2-3 key areas in which partners report to be are most interested in collaborating with TechSoup to inform TechSoup’s engagement strategies with each partner.
    • Organizing and visualizing sets of qualitative data for the TSGN, Development, and leadership teams.
    • Conducting and supporting additional development-related research, as needed by the Development and TSGN teams.
  • Researching and Organizing Donor Engagement Strategies. To ensure we move various opportunities forward in the pipeline, the Development and Strategic Alliances Intern will help us to drive and facilitate cohesive donor outreach by researching, organizing, and documenting our engagement strategies for key individuals and organizations to help the team effectively coordinate cultivation steps and follow up. Duties include:
    • Maintaining a pulse on current tech for good trends and providing insights and due diligence regarding relevant partnerships, funding opportunities, and CSR alignment
    • Conducting deeper research on our connections mapping data sets, including digesting and reporting on fundraising opportunities.
    • Developing the ability to think strategically about internal programs and external opportunities.
    • Updating and drafting outreach funder e-mails and sourcing and organizing funder “leave behinds”.
  • Supporting Grants Management Operations and Administration. To ensure our Team is following proper compliance protocols for grant-funded projects, the Development and Strategic Alliances Intern will support our team in updating and improving our Grants Management and Development Manuals, which will greatly impact our ability to ensure future audits run more smoothly, and new grant project managers are onboarded correctly according to our established grant project management process. Duties include:
    • Updating and editing copy, incorporating edits and providing technical writing support (grabbing images, creating diagrams).
    • Conducting research into project management processes and systems, as needed.
    • Communicating across departments to gather feedback on processes, as needed.

Qualifications

Knowledge:

  • Social networking and non-profit knowledge preferred, but not required.
  • Research, writing, and editing skills with a desire to improve these skills throughout the internship period.
  • Basic online research skills, especially the ability to locate necessary data to strengthen project proposals and concept notes.

Skills:

  • Microsoft Suite. 
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Data analysis and visualization.
  • Bonus: Experience with Foundation Center, GrantStation, or CRMs.

Abilities:

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Interact in a professional manner with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to graciously accept feedback and incorporate into one’s work.
  • Ability to work well with the team, as well as individually on assigned projects.
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and processes.

Education

Any combination of education and experience providing the skill and knowledge for successful participation and learning in the internship would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  • Must be actively and presently enrolled an accredited college or university at an undergraduate or graduate level.
