Instructional Designer (Contract)

Instructional Designer Contractor (3 months)

Full-Time, San Francisco, CA

Summary:

Proficient instructional design experience as well as exceptional organizational skills to lead the development of TechSoup's eLearning programs is the baseline requirement for this role. TechSoup partners with SMEs and other nonprofit organizations to build online content. The incumbent will work closely with SMEs and our global partners to understand the goals of global NGOs and then design engaging online learning activities to achieve specific learner objectives. After designing the learning tracks and interventions, the designer will then act as a program manager to promote and execute this vision. This involves coordination across TechSoup's global communications and marketing teams.

The ideal candidate will have instructional design and significant project management experience, strong organizational and communication skills, a passion for helping nonprofits, and experience with developing engaging eLearning experiences for a nonprofit audience. This role requires someone with a can-do attitude, the ability to figure out what needs to get done, and the initiative to do it and/or ensure it gets done. This position is a contract role for three months. This position will consider local and non-local candidates with the ability to work remote. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Instructional design
  • Design engaging learning activities and compelling course content
  • Work with subject matter experts and identify primary learner training needs
  • Develop instructional objectives and work with SMEs to create content and assets that align with them
  • Maintain project documentation and course folders
  • Program Management
  • Manage strategic, operational, and tactical aspects of multiple projects
  • Prepare and completes action plans on time and on budget
  • Manage scope and mitigate risk across projects
  • Manage ongoing analyses of course content, initiating corrective actions
  • Communicate relevant project information to upper management and peers efficiently and effectively
  • Identify adult education trends, determine program and process improvements, and implement improvements
  • Work across company to share lessons learned and best practices
  • Continually seek and implement opportunities to increase learner loyalty and deepen relationships
  • Work with team to evaluate learner outcomes and translate these into useful data and communicate outcomes for decision making purposes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferred major in Instructional Design or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in instructional design and instructional methodology
  • Demonstrated experience creating and delivering trainings for adults in ILT, blended learning and online formats
  • Demonstrated lesson and curriculum planning skills
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with LMS platforms required
  • Minimum of 2 years’ applying adult learning theories and instructional design models
  • Team and SME management experience
  • Strong attention to detail and take-ownership attitude
  • Highly analytical thinking with talent for identifying, analyzing, and improving work processes
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work and communicate with all levels in the organization

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to effectively and accurately communicate verbally and in writing required
  • Fanatical attention to detail and follow-through required
  • Audio/visual experience with Storyline360 and other video production software required (Adobe Premier preferred)
  • LMS platform experience
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office, Adobe CC, SharePoint)
  • Exhibit professionalism and flexibility in the midst of a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment required
  • Critical thinking and creative ideas required
  • Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks required
  • Demonstrated ability to work with technology experts on collaborative projects required
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously required
  • Understanding of the technology needs of nonprofits and libraries and the challenges in implementing technology solutions to the sector strongly preferred
  • Sense of humor and ability to course correct and change direction depending on business needs
  • This opportunity is a contract role for 3 months.
